DescriptionMelton wool fabric is a thick, heavy, tightly woven fabric, composed of 95% wool with 5% nylon for added strength and durability, with a heavily brushed nap, giving the material a smooth finish with no visible weaving yarns. Available in a variety of colors, melton wool can frequently be found in warm and insulating coats and blankets, as well as reproductions of 17th to 20th century military uniforms and overcoats.
USES & CAREMelton wool is a perfect choice for thick, warm coats, trousers, blankets and historical clothing replications.
CARE: Hand wash in cold or lukewarm water with a mild soap, rinse thoroughly, lay flat to dry. Dry cleaning is also advisable.

Beautiful lightweight melton, the right kind for the coat I intend to make. It arrived in excellent condition and I am very pleased with the color (very close to what my screen showed). A good price and a lot of colors to choose from. Shipping was slow, but the shipping staff solved the problem and were very helpful. Pros:

I ordered this fabric so my tailor could make a
heavyweight sports jacket that I could use as outerwear down to
about 40-45 degrees. The Melton proved to be the perfect fabric. It
is heavy, but allowed for plenty of drape. The density of the
fabric keeps the wind out, but the sports jacket design makes it
less than an overcoat and more than a traditional sports jacket,
which is just what I wanted. Now my casual winter nights out are
not encumbered by having to port a coat around. Moreover, ordering
from the Fabric Center was carefree and delivery was fast. The
quality of the fabric given the competitive price was also a
winner. 22 dense ounces per sq. yard. This material is the real
deal not hobby store stuff.Pros:

Researched numerous websites to find heavy 100% wool
fabric to make blankets and found NONE until I accessed NY Fashion
Center's website. The quality of the fabric is first-rate, the
color is exactly what I wanted, and the cost per yard is excellent.
