First Quality Fabric

Similar to dupioni, our first-quality pure silk shantung offers the same lustrous sheen and medium weight with a smoother and less stubbled texture. The material is a somewhat stiff, adaptable fabric with a subtle luster and lightly pebbled surface. Often used for wedding gowns, suits and traditional Indian attire, silk shantung works beautifully in anything from evening wear to home décor. Read more about silk shantung...

GORGEOUS fabric!
By from Massachusetts on May 31, 2013
I ordered silk shantung for an out fit for my son's wedding. I received the swatches very quickly, made my selection, and ordered the fabric. The fabric arrived within a week and it was GORGEOUS! My seamstress was very impressed with the quality of the fabric and asked where I bought it. I passed along the info to her and she was planning to order some. The silk was lustrous and and color intense. It's perfect! Also, I talked with customer service reps about the fabric and the appropriate lining material and both reps were knowledgeable and friendly. I would HIGHLY recommend NY Fashion Center!

The color of this fabric is a bit softer than it looks on the screen. I made a tea length off-the-shoulder dress with this and finished it with peach buttons in back and a peach petticoat. It is absolutely a beautiful combination.
fabric quality is consistently great. It has a very rich texture and color.
The strings that get everywhere when you're working with it. But it's nothing a little serging can't fix.

PERFECT to sew and stunning
By from Frankfort MI on December 22, 2012
Needed a very specific fabric to recreate a 1959 Christian DIor runway dress that ws for sale in a London ENgland vintage shop for a 'mere' $3800. The staff of NYFashion got online so we could both see the photos of the dress in London. Setttled on the shangtun in tangerine.

Calling it 'tangerine' does not do it justice. The fabric was actually threads of gold and rose woven together so it looks like tnagerine but when the fabric moved it danced through shades of gold, rose and tnagerine ---absolute breathtaking.

The dress came out exactly like the original (very complicated with outer and inner bodices, under and over skirts, a free band at the waist that stands out from the dress and all of it underlined (underlined - not lined) with white silk chiffon.

WOre it a major event were I received a national award - and that event will be televised on ABC on 2/2/2013 at 2PM -- the AKC Eukanuba National Championship Dog Show. There were people competing at the show from all over thw world -- and the consensus from the ABC TV producers to people from EUrope to NYC was that the dress was stunning and fabric mesemerizing.

ANd it sewed like a dream - very easy to handle!

Great and helpful folks at NY Fashion. Fabulous fabrics (and deadly thsu for the credit card LOL!)

Color is created by 2 different colors woven together - dances in the light

Sewed spectacularly

That silk costs 2 - 3 times more than it did 15 or 20 years ago!

Beautiful hand
By from pittsburgh, pa on October 9, 2012
The fabric was light but not flimsy and has a beautiful luster to it. I got it in white and it was creamy but not yellowy.
