The Cotton Seersucker is a thin, striped fabric ideal for warm weather clothing due to its unique breathability. The term seersucker is loosely translated as "milk and sugar" referring to the smooth and rough stripes which resemble the smooth texture of milk and the bumpy texture of sugar. The weave gives an intentional wrinkled appearance in places, preventing the need for ironing.

Content:
100% Cotton

Structure:
60 inches wide

Hand:
This fabric is slightly bumpy and lightweight

Luster:
This fabric is not shiny

Tips and Tricks:

  • Generally, seersucker is pretty easy to sew and doesn’t require special treatment.
  • The only really tricky part is pressing.
  • True seersucker has a crinkly texture that comes from the way that it is woven: threads pull in such a way that the fabric wrinkles. So even if you press a seam and it loses its texture, the crinkles will return once it’s been washed and dried.
  •  Machine wash/dry three times to shrink. To avoid excess fraying, serge the ends separately or stitch them together before shrinking.
  • Use all purpose cotton or polyester thread.
  • Topstitching, serged or faux flat fell seams are suggested. Use a lower temperature or press cloth when pressing

Care:
The Seersucker Cotton fabric can be machine washed and tumble dried or air dried.
